Abstract

Iran has the highest diversity of pistachio cultivars in the world, but no complete studies have been conducted to evaluate the diversity of pistachio genotypes. On the other hand, Yazd province is the second largest producer of pistachios in Iran and among them, Ardakan Township is considered as one of the old and major pistachio growing areas of this province. To investigate the diversity of some pistachio seedling cultivars in Yazd province, a study was conducted in pistachio gardens of Ardakan Township based on a completely randomized design with three replications on 21 pistachio genotypes. For this, 7 quantitative indices related to fruit cluster of these genotypes were recorded in the garden and the obtained data were analyzed. The results showed that the length and width of fruit cluster in Parandhei and Sahraei genotypes were more than other genotypes. The Parandehei genotype had the largest tail diameter of the cluster. The fresh fruit weight of Columbeh and Parandehei genotypes was superior to the other genotypes. The significant morphological differences indicate the high diversity of studied genotypes that can be used in breeding programs.
