Abstract
Guava is one of the most important fruits of tropical regions, rich in various vitamins. This fruit is cultivated in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan. Since the trees in the region are propagated through seeds, cross-pollination has led to wide genetic diversity within its germplasm. Guava trees are found with different characteristics and diverse fruits in terms of shape, size, color, taste and quality. Therefore, this research was conducted to identify the superior genotypes that are available in the region. This study was conducted on 102 guava genotypes, trees 15 to 20 years old, in different parts of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan provinces from 2018 to 2021. In this experiment, growth, quantitative and qualitative traits were investigated and evaluated based on the guava description in a completely randomized design with four replications. The traits of fruit weight, petiole length, total soluble solids, titratable acidity and 100-seed weight showed high variability. Fruit weight varied between 31 and 188 grams. Fruit shape was observed as round, elongated and pear-shaped. Simple correlation results of traits showed that fruit weight has a positive and significant correlation with both fruit length and diameter. 11 genotypes were selected as superior genotypes.
